How To Sunless Tan Your Face

How To Sunless Tan Your Face

Even if you are confident in your self-tanning skills for your body, you may be hesitant to apply sunless tanning products to your face. How can you get a streak-free tan on your face that blends well with the rest of you? With the right technique and the best sunless tanning products from Fake Bake, you can achieve the same glowing results without worrying about damage from harmful UV rays. Follow these self-tanning tips on how to self-tan your face, and give your face a natural-looking tan without the damage.

Know Your Skin

Different skin types respond better to different no-sun tanning formulas. Consider the type of skin you have – is it oily, normal, dry, combination or sensitive skin? Choose a product that works best for your skin's needs. For example, if your skin is oily or prone to acne, you may prefer a lightweight, oil-free sunless tanning spray or liquid, while dry skin may like a hydrating cream or lotion. You may also want to switch types of sunless tanners based on the time of year, especially if your skin changes with the seasons.

Do Your Prep Work

Anytime you apply sunless tanning products, you want to start with a clean slate. For your body, that means exfoliating and shaving the day before, and the same is true for your face. Follow your exfoliation with an oil-free moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and ready to tan (without baking in the sun, of course).

Apply in the Evening Self-tanning as part of your bedtime skincare routine can give your skin time to develop a glorious tan while you sleep. The same holds true for self-tanning your face, so plan to use your sunless tanner after you wash up at night. We recommend these steps:

  •  Gently but thoroughly cleanse your facial skin, removing all traces of makeup.
  • Lightly moisturize your face using an oil-free moisturizer, allowing it time to penetrate the skin.
  • Evenly apply the sunless tanning product to your face using the included application gloves or application mitt. Remember those other areas that tend to get sun but which you may overlook, like the back of your neck or behind your ears.
  • Allow the sunless tanner to dry before you hit the sheets. Rushing to bed before your face and body have time to absorb the products may result in a streaky, uneven finish. Plus, it may wind up on your sheets!
  • Some people like to dust their face with a translucent powder to avoid smudging during the night. Give it a try to see if it works for you.
  • Start light. Faces tend to tan a little deeper, and you can apply sunless tanner again the next day if you have not achieved your desired shade of no-sun stunning.

Build Your Tan

Keep your sunless glow looking great by using moisturizer in the morning and at night to prevent your tan from fading. Remember that tans, even sunless ones, do not offer any protection from sunburn or premature aging. Always use sunscreen to protect your skin from damage.

You can use any Fake Bake sunless tanning product on your facial skin just as you do your body. We also have Coconut Oil Exfoliating Wipes and Mistifier™ Moisturizing Body Spray to help prepare your skin before you self-tan and maintain your glow until your next application.
